Morne flapped helplessly against the wind. He was a matured hatchling, though he was still incapable of long flight. Morne's mother and father twirled through the air in a deadly battle. Temnkuus had sentenced them to fight to the death. A crowd was gathered behind him as he watched. Nebulas, Hellfires, Greys, almost everything you could think of. Morne watched with saddened eyes as his mother fell from the air. It was then that his mind changed sides.

"Good! Good, Berin! You've been promoted," Temnokuus said with a smile. "Have you any eggs? Hatchlings?" "Yes, sir. Just one." He motioned to Morne. "That one, there." "I see." Temnokuus smile widened. "Kill it." Berin hesitated, but rushed toward his child.

Morne saw only a flash of teeth and he knew he would be dead within seconds. He hoped, unless his own father made it slow and painful. A Dark Myst Pygmy rushed forward from the crowd. Though much smaller in comparison, he tackled Berin off of Morne. "Run! Run or I would have done this for nothing!" The voice was familiar. It was Whedab, his only friend. With those words and the echoing screaming of his friend, Morne took to the skies, the wind no trouble for him now.

"Quick, Berin! Hurry! Don't let him get away!" Temnokuus hissed. "He's but a htchling!" Berin threw the pygmy to the ground and continued to follow his son.

Whedab looked at the angry glares around him, and with is last dying breath said, "I did the right thing. And don't you dou...." A pillow dragon bit the last bit of life out of him. Sulter stood tall.
Morne had no fight left in him as he left his old life behind. The only place he could think of that was safe was the mountains. He knew it was safety from his father, but death from the cold. He had no other choice though, so he turned toward the looming shadows.

Berin's heavy wingbeats echoed throughout. "I have a duty to do, and I will do it!" He roared, snapping at the nimble hatchling.

Morne may not have flown before that day, but he knew to stay out of his fathers reach. A light dusting of snow began to fall as they entered the mountainous path. "But why father! Why kill mother! You could have left and lived. We could have been a real family! You didn't have to join Temnokuus! And now you kill my friend for protecting me! I will never call you father again. You are not my father!"

"I don't have to be," he growled, "and I don't even care. Emeri was only your mother because I won her in a game! And Temnokuus is the king!"

"He is nothing more then a weakling. A scum bag! By Daar, I will prove it to you one day." Morne knew that mentioning Daar, the true king, was forbidden, but he had no care for rules any more. He would worship the lord.

"Speaking of Daar is forbidden! I'll kill you, Morne! Kill you!" He flew faster.

"No! He is the true king! He lives in use all. He protects us, even the wicked ones like you!" A crevice opened to his right. It was big enough for Morne to fit in, but to small for a beast like Berin. Morne made a dive for it.

Berin grinned. The little beast was slowing. Berin pushed his wings to go faster. Suddenly Morne turned to the right, leaving Berin to crash to earth.
Daze rushed back to Vyras, where a heated argument was against her. "Uh... Leave her alone! She didn't kill Valvur! The Temnokuus twins did. Hey! SHUT UP!"

Vyras looked at Dase thankfully. She coiled around her tail and let Dase speak. After hearing their new leader address them, the crowd was silent.
Sighed inwardly as he landed in a small cave. His father crashing downward outside did noting to lift his spirits. The floor was glossy beneath him and a small clear drinking water dripped at the back. Remains of meals long ago were scattered about the place. Morne decided to content himself on a bone.

"Look, it was those twins. Valvur was eaten alive. I saw it myself." "Then you should have done something!" roared Valvur's brother. "It was too late! I couldn't."

Vyras spoke up. "You should respect Dase! He was Valvur's apprentice and there by the rightful leader of us. He saved my life recently when I crashed from the sky. If Valvur dying makes you think bad of him, think of what worse dragons there are out there." Vyras remember vividly the battle between to mates she saw one day. In the end, the female had won.
