Calm as before a storm, Hjortur walked out from behind the now almost leafless oak tree. "Hello, what this beautiful hind says is true, my name is Hjortur and I am a Roe like her. I have heard tales of your travels on the wind and now I have finally caught up to you. I too am looking for the valley. Would it be to much to ask if I joined you trio?" His small antlers shook along with his head as leaves fell from above. A gentle wind picked up then and sent them swirling in crazy patterns.

Ceren hesitated. "I suppose. But one false move, and you're dead. These brow tines have your name on them, so watch it." Siarra looked at her mate, quite relieved. This deer couldn't hurt them. Could he?

Hjortur swayed his head in acceptation and stalked up beside Awentia. "It's good to finally have time to talk to you. When I found you three last night, I was so relieved as I watched your silvery flank rising and falling. From the rumors, weren't there four of you?" Awentia nodded bitterly. "He was wounded and told us to go on as the mud toppled him."

Siarra said nothing. The new stag frightened her.

Hjortur said nothing but his sympathy showed through his eyes. Awentia walked up beside him and whispered. "I'm sorry they don't really like you. They'll get used to you soon. Come on, lets start walking." The tawny colored deer nudged him forward.

"Yes, let's go, then," Ceren muttered. He would be on alert forever unless this stag left.

As Awentia walked on Hjortur slowed down to walk next to Ceren. "I know you don't like me, but please don't act different around me, for the hinds sake. It's making that one's gentle spirit sway," he said gesturing toward Awentia.

Ceren sighed. "I know, but... in this fragile time, it's hard to trust anyone."

"I understand, but I'm easier to trust then the predators, right?" he asked, trying to make a light joke. Hjortur gave Ceren a steadily quizzical gaze to see if it worked.

Ceren let a small smile show. "Yes. Yes, indeed." And so they walked.

The four deer walked on. Awentia talked to Siarra while Hjortur stayed back with Ceren. As the day shortened he asked,"Have you ever wondered what happens after you pass on? Would you go to some other world or do we not have a soul. I really hope that there is really this deer god I've heard chatter of."

"Herne?" Sierra asked. "Is it Herne you're talking about?" Ceren rolled his eyes. "Siarra--"

"That could be the name, but I've heard other names for a god that watches over all creatures, even man. Some call him Fenris and others Lord but I feel they are one and the same." Hjortur finished his brief speech and turned to look at Ceren. "What do you think brother kin?"

"Nothing but a bunch of nonsense," he muttered, sinking his hooves more deeply into the dirt.

"Everyone has their own beliefs and I respect that. If you ever get into a stuck situation, you may find some one is always there to help." Moving a head at a long-legged trot Hjortur left Ceren to think over his words.
Awentia swayed her head slightly to the rhythm of Siarra's hoof beats. "How late do you think it is?" she asked in a breathy way.
