"Herne's antlers held all of his power. Now let me finish my story and I will explain," said Aktaion. "So Herne thought for a minute and said, 'Very well, Starbuck, if you are sure that is what you want.' Starbuck told him he was sure and handed the antlers back to the deer god."

"What then?" Siarra asked eagerly.

"Well Herne granted Starbucks wish. He then told of the terrible things that would happen. He said that only the foolish young stags like himself would get antlers and that the hinds would not be touched. Herne explained of the shedding cycle of the antlers and told Starbuck to go eat a withered oak leaf under a tree in the clearing. Once he ate it, he realized that Herne had vanished and found that nothing had happened to him. A sharp pain hit his head then though and Herne called out, 'Starbuck your wish is granted. But because you stole this gift, the things you seek shall be both blessing and curse to Herla. So tremble Starbuck, and run.' So he ran. Starbuck ran blindly for days it felt like and the pain never stopped. But when he exited Herne's woods, he found on his head a mighty pair of antlers. Starbuck had won horns for the Herla." Aktaion bowed his head as he finished his tale. Silence echoed for a few moments.

"So, Herne's a god. In charge of everything. Created everything. I find that hard to believe." "Oh, Ceren, it was a nice story," said Siarra, "I liked it."

"So you believe all the deer, all the Lera, everything that used to be beautiful around us, just happened? Just came to be in one fell swoop? There are many other stories besides that one, and I would be more then happy to tell them to you. One of them is real!" Aktaion replied curtly.

"Oh? Pray tell," Ceren said, scoffing.

"There was a deer named Rannoch. He was a hero! He believed something was wrong, and he changed it. Herne blessed him and gave him the strength to do it! ((You know the story. Lets say he said it.))" The deer walked on in silence until night fall. Awentia laid down next to Siarra. "I believe Herne exists. As does the valley. Where would life be without stories and tales and hopes?"

"I believe too. The world didn't just happen. Something had to have created it." She sighed. "But the stags don't."

"Are stags always this hard headed? Even if you're their mate?" Awentia asked with a wonderful sigh.

"I suppose so. Except Aktaion. Why haven't we heard these stories before?"

"Perhaps because he comes from a different land. You heard the story he told about Rannoch. There was snow and rain and... and life! I bet it's because of this drought. The drought dried out the land, and with it the stories. I do love fables."

"So do I. Perhaps he has another? We should ask tomorrow."
((I also regain Aktaion.))

"Yes. Tomorrow. For now, we should sleep."
((Okay.))

The morning came. "Siarra. Wake up." "Huh?"

Osheen slept under a tree. Awentia slept next to Siarra.
